Recount Writing-The Blue Springs

 The Blue Springs

On the holidays my family and I went to the Blue Springs. The Blue Springs is in the middle of Hamilton and Rotorua. The Blue Springs is a large stream. I was so excited and I couldn't wait to go. 

First we drove to the blue springs. It took around 1 hour and a half to get there. We all went in two different vehicles. My dad was driving in his car and my mum was driving in our van. When we were there we followed signs to show us where to go and told us stuff about the stream. I couldn´t be bothered reading the signs because they had too many words.

Next we walked across the bridge. The bridge led us to the stream as soon as we saw the stream…it looked so beautiful. The big bright sun was shining on the water, making it sparkle. It looked so pretty that lots of people were taking heaps of pictures. 

We walked along the pathway and saw a photographer taking some photos of the steam. Suddenly my brother had an idea in mind. He said to my sister if she wanted to have a competition, the competition was to see who could take the best photos. They went to places to look for some good places to take photos.

After that my brother,my dad, and I were walking on the pathway, as we were walking the water started to get rougher and rougher. There were lots of rocks and waterfalls. When we were walking further the water started to get calm and the land was brown and dry. So we decided to look for my brother, sister and my mum. We found them sitting around playing on their phones.

Then my brother and my sister showed us the cool photos they took. They found a little mermaid pool. My brother showed us a video of my sister, she tripped on the hill. It was a little bit funny. We also took some pictures of ourselves by the stream. The steam made an awesome backdrop and it looked so impressive.  

Finally we all walked to our vehicles and drove home. I had a little sleep on our way. When we got home I laid on my mum's bed and watched a movie. I had an amazing day. I enjoyed it so much.  

Matua Ray's Visit

 Matua Ray’s Visit

On Monday morning Matua Ray came to visit our class to talk about how to keep our fresh waterways healthy.

 

First Matua Ray told us something called clarity. Clarity means if the water is clear or not. Matua Ray showed us a long pipe with a black magnet inside of the pole. We had to move the black magnet up and down inside the pipe. We were checking to see if the water was clear. There were also numbers on the pole. We had to look inside of a circle at the bottom of the long pipe and move the black magnet up and when you couldn’t see the black magnet the magnet would stop at a number. The numbers end at 100. 

Next Matua Ray showed us a fun little experiment. He had some salt water in a little container. Matua Ray brought out something similar to a thermometer. We put the thermometer in the container of salt water and tested how cold the water was. The temperature was 15 degrees. 

After that Matua Ray told us the best ph level for the right amount of alkaline and acid in the water. The best ph level is 7. If the number is over 9 that means there is too much alkaline. If it is under 5 that means there is too much acid. That is why the best number level is 7.

Later on Matua Ray told us about some pests that are not good for our rivers. There were two types. One is called the Mosquito Fish. The Mosquito Fish pulls out other fish's  eyes. The other fish is called the 

Koi Carp. The Koi Carp makes the water dirty and kills the other living fish in the water.

Finally Matua Ray ended his presentation. The class said thank you to Matua Ray for teaching our class some really cool stuff about Whitebait Connection. I thought my class and I had a wonderful time with Matua Ray. I had an amazing morning.

Recount Writing-My Brotherś Birthday

 My Brotherś Birthday 

On Friday it was my brother's birthday. My brother was so excited for his birthday he went to bed very early. In the morning he woke up very early. He had a very expensive gift. It was an ipad. He straight away went to play on it excitedly. He wanted to go school so we had half a day. We were going to leave at little lunch. First we were at school eating our food. After our lunch our sister suddenly came to get us, so my brother and I grabbed our bags and ran to our grey van. Next we drove all the way to Whangarei because my brother wanted to do some shopping there. I think he was very excited. We stopped at Rebel Sports to buy him some new shoes. He chose some red Nikes because he liked them so much. We went to pay for the shoes and walked to the van. After that we stopped at Jay Jays clothing to buy my brother a t-shirt he really wanted. He found a t-shirt online so he decided to buy it. It was an anime t-shirt and the colour of the t-shirt was red. He loved it so much. Later on we were hungry so we all drove to a place to eat. My Papa chose a place because he thought it was delicious and it was delicious. We stopped  at a place called Burger Fuel. It's just like Burger King but way better I reckon. Finally we drove home. 

I thought it was amazing. My brother really liked the stuff he got on his birthday. I enjoyed the fun time my family and I had together. 

Rugby

On Saturday my family and I were going to see a rugby game in Kaikohe.  

I was so excited to go. My brother was also playing in the game.    

First my brother and his coach had a warm up before they played. 

Next the game started. There were seats and a fence so that we won't hurt ourselves. We all sat on a chair. The chairs were wet so we sat at the top seats.  

Then the game suddenly started. My family saw my brother but I could not see him. I looked carefully and suddenly I said, “I see him now,” with a little grin.

While my Papa was watching the game my brother and I got a little bit bored. Beside us there were hills. My brother said, “Do you want to have a race up that hill?” My brother obviously won because I'm not that fast at running up a hill. 

After that my brother who was playing the rugby game was a really good player and he was very smart and also very fast at running. He tricked someone to get a goal. A person he was versing was throwing the ball to his mate but brother knew what to do. He told a group of people in his team to carry him up in the air to catch the ball before the other team got the ball. I was amazed my brother quickly ran to the goal and he got a goal. 

Later on my brother finished his game and his team won by 1 point. His whole team just won an ice-cream from McDonalds. His coach drove him there with some other boys. My Papa just went to McDonalds to to get an ice-cream. 

Finally we went into the van and drove home. I enjoyed my day. I thought iIhad a amazing day

Recount Writing-Going To Funzone

                                           

Going To Funzone

One night my family and I went to Funzone in Hamilton! We were so excited we got dressed and dashed to our van, jumping in my seat. First we drove to the mall because the Funzone was in the mall. Fun Zone is a place where you can play fun games. When we went into the mall we went into an elevator. It was made of glass and it was very clear! It was kind of scary because we could see us going up and down and it was high! There were also some balloons below us. Next we were finally on  the Funzone floor! It was bigger than I thought it was going to be! My mum and dad gave some money to the workers so that we can get a card to play the games. Then My brother and I zoomed to a game we could play. We found a game and it was a 2 player game. We swiped our cards so that we could try out the game. We had water guns and there was actually water that would come out of it but we had to use the water guns to shoot these monsters. When my brother and I finished playing that game we earned some tickets. When you have more and more tickets you get to pick a prize from a worker, there are all types.  My sister said to me can you please buy me a drink?'' I said maybe and then she said I will give you more tickets so i agreed she was choosing a game to play so that she can give me some more tickets. She chose Flappy Bird! and she was really good at playing that game. She scored 20 points. I was really amazed, I went closer to the machine to wait for my tickets. Our family counted all our tickets up and I got the most. I had 85 tickets. I just bought lots of lucky dips for my brother and I. When we were finished buying all that cool stuff I finally bought a drink for my sister, She enjoyed it. Finally we went home. It was night time we just sat down and rested and we were all tired. We all wanted to go another day and we all thought that we might go. I thought it was a nice time hanging out with my family. I enjoyed my day. I think it was the best day so far in my holidays. It was fun and I loved it.

The Water Cycle.

 WALT use the correct language for Explain Writing.

The water cycle

The water cycle is a path that stores water to places like lakes, tanks,and also in our bodys. There are also 4 steps in the water cycle: evaporation, precipitation condensation and accumulation. Evaporation means when the sun comes along  making the water warm causing invisible little drops of water going up into the clouds. Precipitation means that rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls to or condenses on the ground. Condensation means when water vapor cools and turns into liquid. And accumulation means that water is stored in lakes,rivers,and oceans.

 The water cycle goes round and round like a circle. The water on the Earth evaporates and turns into water vapor causing the water to go up into the clouds. When the clouds get heavy from the water it starts to rain and the water cycle starts all over again. The water cycle only stays in the Earth nowhere else. 

Why is the water cycle important to the Earth?

The water cycle is important to the earth because it gives us fresh and clean water for living things on Earth so then animals,people,and plants can survive. If we didn’t have the water cycle lakes, ponds, rivers, waterfalls will all be dried up and animals would have no fresh water. Animals, people, and plants would die and would have a hard time with their lives. People also want the water cycle because it helps all living things survive and live a healthy life. 

If water didn't naturally recycle itself, we would run out of clean and fresh  water, which is not good for people's lives because we need to live with clean and fresh water.

So that's why the water cycle is very important to the Earth.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         

My Writing Sample Term 1 2021

Here is my writing sample for term 1 2021. I think my writing is improved because I can use mor interesting words to add detail to my writing.

On saturday morning my family and I got up very early to go to Australia for a family trip. I was excited my heart was beating so fast. i couldn't wait. I was as happy as a clown. First we packed our bags. When we were finished packing our bags we went to our van to travel to Arkland. 

After that we went inside the airport. My papa got out our passports ready for a worker to look at them. They scanned our bags to see if there was anything bad in them.

Next we walked this bridge to god on the plane. It was also our first time on a plane too. When we were there. We stopped at australia airport. We waited for a van to come. It was a vafn we had to wuse because how are we supposed to bring our own van to australia. There was also a wheelchair in the van for my man because she has a bad leg. We drove to our hotel; it was called anaheim family log. We lived in brisbane. The house looked so cool it had a park there and it even had a trampoline. 

Then it was day 2 we were going to go to a theme park the first one we went to was called movie world I was so excited i was jumping up and down, clapping my hands i was so excited me and my brother ran to a roller coaster i was really wanted to go on it it was called the bat with it was a batman one we waited in line. We were finally going on it. I had a lot of butterflies when I was on it the chair was so big I could hardly fit in it. It counted down 3 2 1…

It zoomed up so fast! I quickly closed my eyes and my brother was screaming hard out. I opened my eyes for a little bit and then closed my eyes. The ride finally finished with my brother and I ran to our nan and our papa and explained a lot about the ride. We were laughing but I don't know the reason why we were laughing.  We went o a small shop and bought some candy floss it was yummy! We finally went back to our hotel. We were so hypo and we played some pool. My sister and I went to bed. I thought our day was so awesome. I felt happy and grateful.

Whaea Diane's Visit

Whaea Dian’s Visit
Yesterday Whaea Dian came to visit our class to teach us about Maths.
First of all Whaea Diane was bringing out a 120’s board.

We used it to help us

count in tens.
After that Whaea Dian told some students to come up and pick

numbers one the 120’s board.
One of the students is named Inaia. The number she picked was 35.
Next we count in tens starting with

the number 35. We counted like this 35, 65, 75, 85.
Then another student came up and his name was Arkillies. His number was 65.
We counted like this 65, 75, 85, 95, 105 ,115, 125. 
Finally Whaea Diane left the room.
I loved learning to count in tens. It was fun and a little interesting to me. I love it. 

My amazing holidays-At the Beach.

 

At the beach.

In the holidays my family and I went to the beach at Rangiwaea Island. First we got up very early to go to the beach. We were so excited I had a big exciting smile on my face. We hopped in the car. We also brought all of our phones so we could take some amazing photos. When we got there it looked so beautiful. It was also very packed. We were so excited to hop in the water. My heart was beating fast. We had not been to Rangiwaea beach. Next we had to get out of our van but as soon as we stepped on the sand. It was burning hot so my mum and I quickly ran and got our sandals. Then we walked on the sand. My brothers were lying down by the trees where the shade was. As soon as my mum and I were near the beach we were getting a little bit cold but we didn't care we just went in straight away. Well my mum did. I just went in very carefully but when a very big wave came…

It hit me but luckily I quickly put my head under the water. When my head was under the water I wanted to open my eyes to see if it was clear and when I did It was super clear!!! I could see a lot of things under the water. Then My mum and I wanted to hop out of the water so we did. When we were finished crossing the sand I saw my dad, my brother, and my two sisters. They were  going to climb Mount Maunganui. They said it was very steep when they were up the mountain. It looked so beautiful!!!

They also took some very cool photos and the view looked so gorgeous. After that I wanted my brothers to come and swim with me so they said yes well of course i would bring my sandals I also told my 10 year old brother, Zion to bring his and he did but my oldest brother Denzel didn't have any so he went without when we were walking on sand my older brother kept standing on the grass because it was so hot. As soon as we were on the cold sand where the water was, we took our sandals off and went in the water. About 5mins passed. We started to look for some pipis because we kept feeling some when we were touching the 

ground. We tried to push ourselves down and tried to catch the pipis with our hands. 

I didn't get any because my arms were too short but my brothers got heaps. My brother caught a huge one. It was the biggest pipi I had ever seen “I said WOW! that is a so big” We came out of the water and showed my mum. My mum was so amazed. My Dad came over and tried to crack the big one with another pipi we found  but the little one cracked instead of the big huge pipi. Finally we went home.

When we got home I straight away went into the shower and got dressed in my pyjamas. I went onto the bed and watched tik tok on my phone. I felt so relaxed I thought really grateful and full of joy but I was also a little bit sad because it was our last day at my Mum and Dads so I tried to stay up as long as I could but I fell asleep. 

I had a amazing day at Rangiwaea beach I really enjoyed it.

Recount-Writing-Planting With My Family

 Planting with my family.

On Saturday my family and I went to Kerikeri. 

We went to a place where they sell plants. My nan wanted to go there because she was making a little garden on the deck. The next day we first started planting the plants. We had lavender flowers, and veggies. Next my brother and I wanted to buy some plants for us so we did. We had a passion fruit plant and a strawberry plant. On Monday all of the bugs had nearly eaten my brother's whole entire plant. It was so funny I was laughing hard out but luckily the plant was growing another strawberry. Luckily my plant was still healthy and green. Then we all finished. I was really excited to show my papa the deck. After that when we showed my papa he was amazed. He thought it was beautiful and more cleaner on the deck. Finally I love planting and cleaning on the deck with my family. I was happy. It was fun and I really enjoyed my day. 

Recount writing-My amazing holidays at Karangahake

 My amazing holidays at Karangahake.

On Friday afternoon my family and I traveled to the mountains in Karangahake. First we went in the car and started driving to the mountains. I was so excited to go. 

I was as happy as a clown. Karangahake is a beautiful mountain also called by a Maunga with lots of stairs and very dark tunnels. Next we were finally there. But did you know we were actually in the mountains? It was kind of like a gold mine. We had to cross very wiggly bridges. 

I was so scared I was terrified. Then we walked up the stairs and started walking. Those mountains have amazing nature. I couldn’t believe it. It also had gorgeous rivers and it was beautiful. We ended up by a very dark tunnel like I said very dark tunnel in the beginning. Luckily everyone had their phones. Suddenly everyone's phones started to run out of battery. Then we ended up in another dark tunnel. My brother and I went inside of it and waited for everyone to come. When everyone came I gave them a magnificent fright. My sister was so terrified but my brother and I were laughing hard out. After that we walked past a waterfall. Then we noticed that the water was spring water. My Dad went up the waterfall and filled up his bottle with that water. Then my other brother went up. He tasted it and the next minute he said, “That water is very fresh.” Then we all tasted it. We loved it so much, so we ended up bringing some home. I said, “How are we going to bring some home?” My mum said,”By getting the bottles in my bag.” We were nearly finished our walk.Then we started walking a little bit faster and then we were finally nearly at our car. My legs were very tired. We went over the wiggly bridge and went to the car. Finally we drove home. By the time we were home it started to rain. I snuggled up in my blanket and relaxed for a little while. I had the coolest marvelous time with my family.

I thought it was a delightful and magnificent holiday.

WALT talk about what we are learning about sound.

I wanted to share with my family what I was learning about sound

 

Dear Nan and Papa, 

We have been learning about sound.  

In the beginning of our study we did not know very much about sound.

We asked questions like what is sound?How is sound made? How do we hear sound? and what makes sounds louder and quieter? Now we know more about sound. We tried some experiments and watched some videos and learned a lot more than we knew in the beginning of our study. We also know more about how sounds are created when something vibrates. We also learned when a bell is struck, the metal vibrates. Sound always needs to travel through some kind of medium, such as air, water, or metal. In space, where there is no air, sound waves do not have anything to travel through and the bell would not be heard. Sound is a type of energy made by vibrations. When any object vibrates, it causes movement in the air particles. These particles bump into the particles close to them, which makes them vibrate too, causing them to bump into more air particles. This movement, called sound waves, keeps going until they run out of energy. If your ear is close to the vibrations, you hear the sound.  When the vibrations are fast, you hear a high note. When the vibrations are slow, it makes a low note. Sound is like light, sound travels through the air in waves. Sound is made by air molecules vibrating. When you clap your hands, the air around your hands shakes. This is the air molecules vibrating.  Once in your ear, the vibrations travel into the ear canal until they reach the eardrum.  The eardrum passes the vibrations through the middle ear bones (the hammer, the anvil and the stirrup) into the inner ear. The inner ear is shaped like a snail and is called the cochlea. Inside the cochlea, there are thousands of tiny hair cells. They send messages to the brain. The brain tells you that you are hearing a sound and what that sound is. If you put your finger on your voice box you will feel buzzing sounds. 

 

Week 3 Writing Sample

On Saturday my family and I were going to Frasahigh School in Hamilton. First we went onto our bikes and rode to the school. Then we arrived. I was so excited I was as happy as a clown. After That we were riding around Frasahigh School and suddenly I saw my sister getting ready to go home. I ran up closer to her and said hello. Finally we went home and my dad said I had a great time. I was amazed!!!
